SEATTLE —
The Seattle Fire Department is continuing to investigate an apartment fire that killed a man and injured another in Greenwood early Sunday morning.
Crews were dispatched at 3:32 a.m. after receiving a call of a fire in an apartment unit in the 10500 block of Greenwood Avenue North.
When firefighters arrived at the location, they found heavy black smoke pouring from the bottom floor of the unit of a two-story apartment complex.
Witnesses said a man was believed to still inside of the apartment.
When crews got into the unit, there was heavy smoke and they found combustible materials.
Firefighters found a deceased man 10 feet from the door.
The fire was extinguished.
Medics at the scene treated the resident who lived above and he suffered minor smoke inhalation.
The medical examiner and Seattle Police Department’s Arson Bomb Squad detectives were called to the scene.
The fire is still under investigation, and damages have not been determined.
