KENT, Wash. —
A two-alarm fire damaged an apartment complex on Kent’s West hill early Sunday morning.
The fire happened at an apartment complex in the 26000 block of 17th Place South after midnight, according to the Kent Fire Department.
All residents of the building evacuated before firefighters arrived.
When firefighters got to the location, heavy flames were visible on the third floor of the building, two apartment decks and the roof.
Additional emergency units were called to assist.
Crews controlled the fire from the exterior of the building and then went inside to find more flames. The fire was extinguished within 25 minutes, according to officials.
Investigators said the cause of the fire was because cigarettes being disposed in a flower pot and it ignited the dry plants. The flower pot was placed close to the siding on the third floor deck.
The estimated damage to the building is at $350,000.
Eight residents were displaced, and there were no reports of injuries among residents and firefighters.
