THURSTON COUNTY, Wash. —
Two men are in police custody after the body of a man was found in the Capitol Forest Tuesday, the Thurston County Sheriff's Department said.
Police said on March 17, a man told police he witnessed a slaying in the forest on March 15. The man took deputies to the location at the Bordeaux Road Southwest near the E9000, but a K-9 and investigators were unable to find the body.
Police looking for the alleged victim had not been seen by friends and relatives since the day of the alleged homicide, and detectives continued to investigate the report.
On Tuesday, a state Department of Natural Resources employee found the body of Randem S. Robinson, 26, the same man who police had been able to located earlier, the Thurston County Sheriff's Department said. Police said the body was found in the same area the witness had described.
Police said an autopsy revealed the victim was killed by a gunshot to his head and was the victim of a homicide.
A possible suspect in the homicide was arrested on suspicion of unrelated drug charges on March 17. Police said at the time of the arrest, the man was questioned about the possible homicide and denied any involvement. The man, 30-year-old Christopher Havens, was interviewed again on Tuesday and gave police information, which led detectives to book the man on suspicion of first-degree murder charges, the sheriff's office said.
Police said Havens was an acquaintance of the victim.
Also arrested in connection with the crime is the man who claimed to have witnessed the homicide, deputies said.
Police said 23-year-old Kevin M. Cleman was arrested on charges of suspicion of murder.
Police said a handgun that may have been used in the homicide was recovered and a vehicle believed to have been used to transport the victim to the Capitol Forest was impounded. Police said the vehicle belongs to Cleman.
Police said the motive for the killing continues to be investigated, but the victim and two suspects were involved in the local drug culture and had been having disputes recently.
Detectives ask anyone who may have information about the case to call 360-786-5279. Those wishing to remain anonymous can call Crime Stoppers at 360-493-2222.
