2 Arrested In Thefts Of Cemetery Vases

SEATTLE —

Sheriff's deputies have arrested two men in connection with the thefts of brass grave vases stolen from two cemeteries in recent weeks, the sheriff's office said Monday.

At least 200 cemetery vases -- worth about $150 each -- were stolen from Washington Memorial Park in SeaTac and Sunset Hills Cemetery in Bellevue.

Detectives said a 44-year-old Burien man sold at least 89 of the vases at metal recycling yards in King County. He was arrested and released until formal charges are filed.

A second man, 35, sold at least 55 of the stolen vases, sheriff's detectives said. He was arrested and released, then arrested by Seattle police under investigation of burglary. He's a convicted felon and a level 3 sex offender, deputies said.

Sheriff's detectives don't know if the men were working together.
