2 Boeing Workers Dead, 1 Injured In Plane Crash

AMSTERDAM —

The Boeing Company confirmed that two of their four employees who were on board the ill-fated jetliner that crashed in Amsterdam were killed. A third employee was injured and remains hospitalized, a news release said.

The company said it is awaiting official notification about the condition of the fourth employee on the flight.

The Boeing 737-800 smashed into three pieces as it crashed just short of the runway at Amsterdam's Schiphol Airport on Wednesday morning.

The Puget Sound-area employees on Turkish Air flight 1951 were identified as Michael Hemmer of Federal Way, Ronald Richey of Duvall, John Salman of Kent and Rickey E. Wilson of Clinton.

The mother of Ronald Richey confirmed to KIRO 7 that her son was among the deceased. Sources told KIRO that Hemmer is the man who was injured but survived the crash.

The four were flying from Istanbul to Amsterdam on company business. All work for the company's defense division working on the Turkish "Peace Eagle" program, a Boeing-built military jet with an airborne early warning and control system.

A total of 135 people were on the flight. Dutch officials said a total of nine people were killed. The other five victims are Turks.

Included in the dead were the two pilots. More than 80 others were injured when the plane went down. Six suffered critical injuries.

One Dutch investigator said the plane apparently lost speed and "fell out of the sky."

Boeing sent a team to provide technical support to the investigation.

Investigators said it was possible that an engine failure was responsible for the crash.
