Investigators said they believe they know who the man and woman are, but they are working to confirm their identities. KIRO 7 Eyewitness News reporter Kevin McCarty said preliminary reports indicated gunshot wounds killed the couple.

Deputies were called when a neighbor said he heard screams outside the home at about 7:30 a.m. and the deputies found a man wrapped in a sleeping bag who had been shot in the head.

"I heard someone call, 'Help me. Help me,' and there was, I would guess, a Hispanic person wrapped in a sleeping bag, and he was covered with blood," said Ted Sanford, a witness.

Deputies said the man told them he was shot while trying to intervene in a domestic violence incident between the man and a woman.

The incident prompted a large response from law enforcement agencies. Video from Chopper 7 showed numerous police cars parked in the neighborhood of homes and duplexes near Kimball and Erickson.

Chopper 7 video showed SWAT officers entering the home after 10 a.m. and then leaving the home a few minutes later.

"When we went inside the residence, we found both of the occupants deceased," said Detective Ed Troyer of the Pierce County Sheriff's Office.

He said it was not clear what happened inside the home, who the man in the street was or why he was wrapped in a sleeping bag.
