TACOMA, Wash. —

Police are searching for a Tacoma man and his wife who are accused of killing the man's mother and stuffing her body in a crawlspace.

Police said Thomas Bienville and his wife, Austa Bienville, killed his mother, Lurinda Hughes, sometime in the past two weeks.

Investigators believe the couple has now fled the state, police said.

Hughes, a nurse, was last seen when she left work at Swedish Medical Center in Seattle on April 14.

Investigators served a search warrant this week at the home the three shared in the 1700 block of East 64th Street.

Detectives found blood in a bedroom and evidence a body had been dragged through the house, according to court documents prepared by the prosecutor's office.

In the garage, detectives found a large cupboard had been moved to block a panel that provides access to a crawlspace, according to the documents. Detectives removed the panel and saw a body in the crawlspace that was later identified as that of Hughes.

An autopsy determined Hughes had been struck on the head and shot in the chest.
