2 Trapped After Car Crashes Into Lakewood Apartment

LAKEWOOD, Washington —

Two people suffered non-life-threatening injuries Friday afternoon after being trapped when a car crashed into an apartment building.

Lakewood police said the car went all the way into the bottom-level apartment at 5610 Boston Avenue Southwest. One man who was inside the apartment sleeping was pinned by the car and it took rescuers some time to free him. He may have suffered broken bones and other injuries.

Police told KIRO 7 that another person was trapped underneath the car, but the specifics of that person's injuries were not immediately known.

Lakewood police say drugs or alcohol may have been a factor in the crash. The driver of the car was taken into custody.

The apartment unit above the crash was evacuated amid concerns that the structure wasn't entirely stable. The car remained wedged in the building Friday while police waited on an engineer to arrive on scene and assess the building's stability.
