BREMERTON, Wash. —

Two brush fires, one of them a 3-alarm blaze, closed part of Highway 3 near the Bremerton National Airport in Kitsap County.

State Route 3 is closed in both directions between Sunnyslope Road and Lake Flora Road,  the Kitsap County Department of Emergency said.

KIRO 7 Eyewitness News Chopper 7 pilot Clark Stahl said the fire was estimated to extend 100 feet into the woods and the road is closed for about 1.5 miles.

The fire was reported around 2:20 p.m.

According to the Kitsap Sun's Twitter account, crews cleared a trail and hooked up a hose to the airport water supply, but at Highway 3 and Lake Flora Road, crews ran out of water and had to wait for water trucks to arrive.

Video from Chopper 7 showed fire burning trees and brush and crews at the scene.

Stahl said crews were still putting out hot spots and the road was expected to be closed at least until 8 p.m.
