3 Hurt In Collapse Of Building Facade In Downtown Seattle

SEATTLE —

Bricks and other debris fell from the façade of a downtown Seattle building, injuring three people on the street below, firefighters told KIRO 7 Eyewitness News.

Photos from the scene showed bricks and chunks of concrete on the sidewalk outside the Icon Grill at Fifth Avenue and Virginia Street. The restaurant's marquee sign was damaged.

The three people hurt in the incident were taken to Harborview Medical Center.

The fire department said the victims include a 40-year-old man who was struck in the head. He was alert and talking to medics when he was taken from the scene. A hospital representative said he was listed in serious condition and in the Intensive Care Unit Friday afternoon.

A 45-year-old man who was knocked down had back pain, and a 23-year-old woman was hit in the leg, firefighters said. Both were treated at Harborview and released, a representative said.

By the afternoon, work crews removed the outer shell of the marquee and cleared the sidewalk of debris.

It’s not clear why the façade sheared off.

The restaurant remained closed Friday, but said they will reopen Saturday at noon.
