5 Fires Set In U-District

SEATTLE —

Police are looking for the person who set five fires Friday morning in Seattle's University District.

The first fire was reported at 5:14 a.m. at a home in the 5200 block of 11th Avenue Northeast. Seven people escaped after a woman sleeping on a couch saw flames.

Damage in that fire was estimated at $350,000.

A few minutes later, a mattress that was leaning against a house in the 5200 block of 12th Avenue Northeast was set on fire. Damage was assessed at $36,000.

Just after 6 a.m., there was a fire in a trash bin near University Way Northeast and Northeast 42st Street. Another trash bin fire erupted at about the same time in that area.

Investigators examining scorch marks on a porch in the 4200 block of Brooklyn Avenue Northeast said it another arson case.

No one was hurt in any of the fires.
