MEDFORD, Ore. —

A Bellingham man was arrested and about 55 pounds of cocaine was found by police during a Tuesday night traffic stop on Interstate 5 in the Medford, Ore. area.

According to Oregon State Police Lieutenant Kelly Collins, at 11:15 p.m., a trooper stopped a 2002 Chevrolet pickup for a traffic violation on I-5 near milepost 32.

During the traffic stop and with the help of a drug-detecting K-9, cocaine estimated to be worth $600,000 was discovered inside the truck.

The driver, a 27-year-old Bellingham man, was arrested and booked into the Jackson County Jail in Medford.

The incident was the second significant cocaine seizure by OSP troopers during traffic stops within the last week. Police said a previous stop last week on Highway 97 about 11 miles south of the Oregon/Washington border netted about 65 pounds of cocaine.
