Wednesday is 7-Eleven Day, meaning anyone who wants one can get a free Slurpee.

The company celebrates its founding on July 11 (7/11), though interestingly enough, the name “7-Eleven” derives from the hours it began operating during the 1940s.

Founded in 1927, the chain was originally called Tote’m Stores, since customers would “tote” away their purchases. In 1945, the name was changed to reflect the fact that the stores were open from 7 a.m. to 11 p.m., which at the time was outside the realm of when many stores were open.

If you’re looking for a place to get your Slurpee fix, 7-Eleven has a handy map on its site.
