EVERETT, Wash. —

A 76-year-old employee at an Everett business shot an intruder Thursday morning after the man began throwing things at him in an attempt to escape.

Police said the employee arrived at Robinette and Associates Realtors in the 1800 block of Colby Avenue at 9 a.m. and found a man inside.

The employee pulled a gun he was carrying and told the man to wait while he called police.

When the man began throwing items at the employee, the employee shot the 30-year-old man in the thigh.

The homeowner said he had to take cover in a shed while police had their guns drawn and arrested the burglar.

The burglar suffered non-life-threatening injuries.
