8 More Sex Offenders On McNeil Island Found With Child Porn

OLYMPIA, Wash. —

Eight more sexually violent predators were found with child porn at the Special Commitment Center on McNeil Island, according to a press release from Senator Mike Carrell.

In September 2009, seven other residents were indicted on similar charges, bringing the total number of residents caught breaking the law to 16 in the last three years.

During a press conference in September, when the initial seven residents were charged, officials did not know how the suspects got the porn.

According to their Web site, the Special Commitment Center Program provides a specialized mental health treatment program for civilly committed sex offenders who have completed their prison sentences. The program is operated by the Department of Social and Health Services.

Since the special commitment center is not a prison, guards cannot search incoming mail and residents can have their own computers.
