PURDY, Wash. —
A 26-year-old man allegedly drove drunk and high on marijuana when he crashed his vehicle early Saturday morning, which left his 9-year-old nephew critically injured, troopers said.
The crash happened around 1:30 a.m. on westbound State Route 16 in Purdy.
According to the Washington State Patrol, Jayce Randall lost control of his 1990 Acura Integra and rolled over when he got off the highway to take the Purdy Drive exit.
Randall and his 9-year-old nephew, in the front passenger seat, were ejected from the car. A 9-year-old girl was also in the backseat and she was hurt.
The boy was taken to Mary Bridge Children’s Hospital and is in critical condition.
The girl’s condition is unknown at this time.
Randall was taken to Tacoma General and is in satisfactory condition.
The State Patrol said Randall admitted to drinking and using marijuana before driving. Authorities also found marijuana in the vehicle. His blood alcohol level was more than two times the legal limit.
Authorities said the driver was arrested on suspicion of vehicular assault.
