KENT, Wash. —
The Kent Fire Department is investigating a fire that broke out Friday morning in an apartment complex in the 1600 block of Maple Lane, in the Kent Valley.
According to the Kent FD, the fire was reported at 8:51 a.m. and displaced 15 people -- nine adults and six children -- within three apartments. The residents are being cared for by the Red Cross.
Smoke was coming from the roof and the front door of a second unit when firefighters arrived, said the Fire Department. Other units were affected because the fire got to the walls and attic space of the building. The apartments that were damaged were all on the second floor, and damage has been estimated at $200,000.
Firefighters said that no one was injured in the fire, but a dog died in the apartment where the fire started despite the firefighters' attempts to resuscitate it.
The Kent FD received assistance from King County Medic One and the Zone 3 Fire Explorer's rehabilitation unit.
