SEATTLE —
Seattle police SWAT officers shot and killed an armed man who was sitting in a parked car on Beacon Hill Monday afternoon.
Police said they were called to the 1400 block of South Atlantic Street at 2:24 p.m. after Seattle fire personnel responded to a call regarding a man sitting in a parked car.
Firefighters said when they approached the man, he displayed a gun. The firefighters retreated and waited for police as the man attempted to get his car out of a parallel parking spot, Seattle police said.
After patrol and SWAT officers arrived, they talked to man while he was still seated in the car. Detectives said said officers could see a handgun in the mans hand, and they gave him multiple commands to put down the weapon, but the man raised the gun.

Police said three SWAT officers fired their rifles and the man was struck several times. He died at the scene.
Authorities said homicide and CSI detectives responded and continue to conduct an investigation.
The three officers have been placed on paid administrative leave, as is standard procedure in officer-involved shootings.
A firearms review board will determine whether the shooting was within department policy.
