MERCER ISLAND, Wash. —

KIRO 7 Eyewitness News captured on camera the arrest of a man accused of stealing alcohol from a grocery store, fleeing, crashing -- and then returning to the scene of the crime.

Police said officers spotted two young men stealing alcohol from a Mercer Island QFC store. When the officers tried to pull the men over after they left the store, the men fled, crashing into a tree near 72nd Avenue Northeast and North Mercer Way.

A K-9 found one of the men, who was arrested.  The other man got away.

Police gave a description of the wanted man to KIRO 7 Eyewitness News reporter Alexandra Limon, who spotted a man matching that description walking in the parking of the QFC where the theft happened.

Limon called 911. Store employees also called 911.

"I think it's kind of crazy. He was definitely covered in blood. They said he hit a tree. He came back in the store to use the phone, and then the people recognized him off the surveillance video," said Mark McLean, a witness.

Police quickly arrived to arrest the man, one officer ordering the suspect to the ground.

Video showed the man with scratches on his face as officers handcuffed him and put him in the back of a Mercer Island patrol car.

He has not been charged.
