BURIEN, Wash. —

Authorities said an arsonist was responsible for a fire that burned through brush on a Burien hillside Monday.

Firefighters stopped the blaze just short of homes on a ridge above State Route 509.

Investigators said someone lit a firecracker and threw it out a car window, intentionally setting the dry brush on fire.

The fire marshal said the arsonist, if caught, would be charged with a felony.

A truck from Sea-Tac Airport sprayed foam to keep the fire, near 4th Ave. S and S. 144th St., from flaring up again.

Neighbors got out garden hoses to spray fences as firefighters battled flames said to be five or six feet high.
