TACOMA, Wash. —

The Tacoma Police Department confirmed that an alleged attempted abduction that took place last week near Truman Middle School was a hoax .

Three girls who skipped their first class at Truman Middle School told detectives that three Hispanic men had tried to force them into a van at gunpoint as they were walking toward the school.

The girls went so far as to rip each others clothing and cause injury to one another to make their claim appear more real.

The girls could face criminal charges for filing a false police report.
