'Bad Santa' wanted in bank robbery

SEATTLE —

Detectives are looking for a would-be robber who was clutching a Santa hat when he walked into a bank and demanded money in a misspelled note, but ended up leaving empty-handed.

Police said the man walked into a Bank of America on Beacon Avenue South and South Bayview Street in the Beacon Hill neighborhood at 3:30 p.m. Monday and handed a teller a note informing him that “this is a robary.”

For some reason the man, who at times held the Santa hat up to his face, left the bank without taking any cash.   He then hopped on a bus as bank staff called police.

When the man got off the bus, he left his Santa hat behind, perhaps as a gift to detectives.

Anyone who recognizes the man is asked to contact the Seattle police robbery unit at 206-684-5535.
