SEATTLE —

After sitting empty for a year, the former Sunset Bowl in Ballard is set to be demolished shortly.

The iconic bowling alley closed in 2008 after developers decided to build a six-story mixed use building.

Since then, the building has been fenced off.

Avalon Ballard passed final design review stages last April and was given the go-ahead to begin construction two months ago.

Crews started removing asbestos from the inside and cutting power lines. Once finished, demolition will begin.

Sunset Bowl was in business for 51 years.

Though the bowling alley retained its weathered vintage look on the outside, it had some updated amenities inside but still kept classic traditions such as roasted cashews in the bar for $1.25.
