Bellevue Couple Escapes Burning Home

The couple, who are in their 70s, called 911 at about 5:30 a.m. and then left the home in the 5700 block of 111 Avenue Southeast.

The couple is being treated for possible smoke inhalation.

Most of the damage is to the home's second floor which caused nearly $800,000 worth of damage.

The homeowner told officials priceless antiques, collectibles and paintings were lost in the fire.

Neighbors said the woman who lived at the home had an art studio and her art work was likely destroyed in the blaze.

"They had many, many wonderful Chinese relics. She is an artist and all her paintings are gone," said Janice Freiberg, a friend of the homeowner.

There was no immediate word on what caused the fire. Neighbors told KIRO 7 Eyewitness News the couple had a dinner party Monday night and lit candles in celebration of the Chinese New Year.
