SEATTLE —
Police are going through evidence seized after officers shut down a major fencing operation on Capitol Hill, KIRO 7 Eyewitness News reported.
There was so much evidence -- filling a house and garage -- that it took detectives days to recover it, said reporter Alison Grande.
One of the victims whose bike was stolen helped police zero-in on the man accused of running the operation.
"It was a really specific and special custom bike. It had a beautiful custom paint that I just adored," said Whitney.
The Seven Cycles bike, which retails for about $8,000, disappeared last January, stolen from a locked bike room inside her apartment building.
"We figured the bike was too unique to try to sell it right away," she said.
Nine months later, she got a phone call from a man in Baltimore who had bought the bike on eBay. He said he knew right away it was stolen because the paint was scraped away -- only the frame left, and the serial number.
The eBay seller was only a few blocks away from Whitney.
"It was scary, but I wasn't totally surprised it was somewhere up the street," she said.
She told police, and other victims came forward too. A man tracked his stolen iPod to the house.
Detectives went in with a warrant, and found computers, high-end bikes, Rolex watches and meth.
At a community meeting with neighbors and police Thursday night, one of the top concerns for residents was burglaries and car prowls. Police think shutting down this fencing operation, should lower crime here.
The 41-year-old who was arrested was released from jail while police sort through the stolen property.
