FEDERAL WAY, Wash. —

A bizarre situation shut down southbound Interstate 5 near Federal Way overnight.

The State Patrol said a motorist called 911 and said she was out of gas.

Police said when troopers arrived around 3:30 a.m. Monday, the woman and man inside the vehicle acted strangely, refused to answer questions, locked their doors and called 911.

At one point, police believed it was a hostage situation and Kent police were called to the scene and brought flash-bang grenades, investigators said.

Kent officers threw the grenades through the vehicle’s window, forcing the woman out.

Police removed the man from the car.

Both were arrested on drug and obstruction charges.
