Body Of Missing Rafter, Kayaker Recovered From Green River

KING COUNTY, Wash. —

The body of a missing rafter and kayaker were recovered from the Green River Saturday, reported the King County Sheriff’s Office.

Both men, a 34-year-old African American man from Federal Way and a 45-year-old Seattle man, were reported missing on Saturday, May 17, after they went boating on the river.

The Federal Way man's body was located around 11:30 a.m. Saturday lodged under a tree, said Sgt. John Urquhart of the King County Sheriff’s Office. He was found down-river from Flaming Geyser State Park, near an area known as Beer Bottle Beach.

Police said he and three other men tied two small, inflatable rafts together and put them in the river near Flaming Geyser State Park.

The raft went downstream and flipped putting all four into the water, said Urquhart. Three of the men were rescued, but the fourth went missing.

The body of a 45-year-old Seattle man who disappeared while kayaking on the Green River was also recovered Saturday morning.

Search crews found the body last weekend, but were unable to recover the body because of strong currents.

The King County Sheriff's Office said the man was kayaking with three friends downstream from Kanasket Palmer State Park on May 17 when he disappeared.
