SEATTLE —

The eastside boy who took a gun to school and threatened students and his principal has learned his punishment.

Boy Heading To Detention

A juvenile court judge sentenced the 12-year-old to between 13 and 18 months in detention Wednesday.

The boy pleaded guilty to assault, harassment and weapons charges.

Kirkland police arrested him at his school in June, after they said he brought his mother's loaded .357-caliber Magnum to Alexander Graham Bell Elementary School in Kirkland several times, pointed it at classmates and threatened to kill his principal.

The prosecutor in the case said the sentence gives the boy enough time to turn himself around.

"Rehabilitation is our goal. Get people to change their lives now, rather than later, when it's too late," said Charles Lind, senior deputy prosecutor.

The boy's mother faces reckless endangerment charges for not keeping a closer eye on her gun.
