A Snohomish County police officer who was trying to rescue his dog from the Stillaguamish River Sunday ended up being pulled from the river by a bystander.

Snohomish County Undersheriff Tom Davis had entered the river in Arlington to save his dog when he was swept away Sunday morning.

A bystander was able to pull Davis out of the river.  Davis was unresponsive and the bystander began CPR as personnel from Arlington police and fire departments arrived near the Twin Rivers Park in the 400 block of East Burke Avenue.

Davis was transported to Cascade Valley Medical Center where he was treated and released the same day.  

 “My family and I are extremely grateful for the quick actions taken by everyone involved yesterday … from the bystander who helped me from the river to the aid units who responded so quickly.  I cannot thank them enough,” said Davis.

The dog survived, too.
