COUPEVILLE, Wash. —

A Camano Island resident appeared in court here Wednesday in connection with the shooting death of his friend.

According to KIRO 7 Eyewitness News North Sound Bureau Chief Anna Velasquez, Huey P. Ford, 65, faces second-degree murder charges stemming from the shooting that happened in the Country Club neighborhood on Tuesday.

The Island County Sheriff's Office reported receiving a 911 call from a residence on Elhardt Street at about 4 p.m. During that call, a man later identified as Ford told dispatchers that he had just "shot my friend."

Court documents indicate that when emergency crews arrived on the scene, Ford told them he could not answer the door because his wheelchair was hung up on something in the house. Deputies entered the house and convinced Ford to surrender. They also recovered two loaded handguns including a semi-automatic weapon believed to have been used in the shooting.

When paramedics entered the home they found the shooting victim dead. They say the man died earlier in the day and suffered more than one gunshot wound. He is identified only as a 55-year-old resident of Stanwood.

Police say Ford told them that he and his friend had been arguing for the last few weeks. Ford told police that when his friend threw a pillow at him, he shot the man. Police say that Ford intended to shoot himself as well, but changed his mind.
