Car Strikes 3 Teens Near Renton

RENTON, Wash. —

A car struck three teenage girls near Petrovitsky Park in the Renton area, the sheriff's office said.

A sheriff's office spokesman said three cars collided on Southeast Petrovitsky Road near Parkside Way Southeast at 3:22 p.m. and that one of the cars struck three Ridgewood Elementary girls. The victims were knocked down, suffered bumps and bruises and were transported to the hospital.

The driver of a maroon car told investigators she couldn't reach the brake pedal to stop after her leg was injured in the crash. Her car jumped the curb and hit the three victims, who were walking on the sidewalk, police said. The driver of the car was transported to a local hospital for her leg injuries.

Police said they believe the crash occurred when one vehicle ran a red light but they don't yet know who caused the crash.

Police said Southeast Petrovitsky Road will remain closed for several hours while they investigate the circumstances of the incident.

The ages of the victims were not immediately known.
