Cedar River Reopens; Green Remains Closed

KING COUNTY, Wash. —

The Cedar River was reopened to recreational use Friday at noon.

"The flow of the Cedar River has diminished considerably, and although still very cold, the public is free to use the river again", said King County Sheriff Sue Rahr.

Both the Cedar River and the Green River were closed on May 17 because snow melt from uncharacteristically hot weather made the rivers fast, high and very cold.

The Green River remains closed. The bodies of two people using the river on May 17 have not been recovered.

One victim a 45-year-old experienced kayaker. The other was a man floating with friends on two inflatable rafts tied together. He was 34 years old and was not wearing a life jacket.
