GLACIER, Wash. —

A child was found dead and his mother hurt in a crashed car on the Mount Baker Highway Tuesday morning, KIRO 7 Eyewitness News reported.

Department of Transportation workers found the vehicle crashed into a tree at Mile Post 37, about 40 miles east of Bellingham, with the woman and her 4-year-old son inside.

The woman had cuts on her hands and wrists and an ankle injury.

The boy's father had reported the two missing about 3 a.m. Tuesday.

Investigators said they found beer bottles in the car, which was discovered upside-down amid tree branches, and they said the boy wasn't in a car seat at the time of the crash.

Troopers are investigating
