His award-winning, quality work includes:

  • Exposing a secret program where the government traded human brains for money, while failing to obtain consent from families.
  • A hidden camera investigation uncovering physical abuse at a state-run school for the severely disabled. The work sparked criminal convictions and the retraining of hundreds of caregivers.
  • A comprehensive computer analysis of fatal RV crashes, which first revealed how design flaws were unnecessarily killing and maiming hundreds of passengers.

Since arriving in Seattle, Halsne has won the 2008 and 2006 National Press Club Consumer Journalism Award, the 2005 National Edward R. Murrow award for investigative reporting, a National Genesis Award, and multiple regional Emmy awards for investigative reporting. He has also been a finalist for both the IRE and National Headliner awards multiple times.

Halsne graduated from the University of Kansas, where he earned a bachelor of science in Journalism. His career in commercial television spans 21 years. Before joining KIRO 7 Eyewitness News, Halsne led investigative news units in Oklahoma City and Grand Rapids, Mich.
