Clues May Help Detectives Solve 2001 Murder Mystery

SEATTLE —

Sheriff's detectives have released a series of clues -- including sketches, photos and a map -- in the hopes someone will be able to help them solve a fatal shooting in White Center that happened nine years ago.

The investigators with the King County Sheriff's Office said specifically, they hope to find the White Center house where 29-year-old Crystal Vaughn was taken before she was fatally shot on a street corner on Aug. 28, 2001.

Before the shooting, Vaughn and her sister Misty met the killer when they were drinking beer at a bus stop. They went to the man's home for a drink, the Sheriff's Office said.

Detectives said there was an argument between the man and Crystal, and that the sisters were driven to the area of Southwest 101st Street and 15th Avenue Southwest. The two sisters were walking away from the man's car when he pulled up to them and shot Crystal three times, killing her.

The house where the sisters were taken earlier was in the area of the 3700 block of Southwest 106th Street, about one mile from where the women met the man, the Sheriff's Office said.

Detectives said the man asked the women to remove their shoes when they came into the house. He told the women to be quiet because his "niece was sleeping."

"The interior of the house was neat and tidy, and there were children’s toys in the house," the Sheriff's Office said in a news release. "There was a large stereo and a CD collection, as well as a free standing stove or fireplace in the living room. The women were served brandy to drink."

Investigators said the gunman is black, about 27 to 35 years old and 6 feet to 6 feet 3 inches tall. He smoked Marlboro Red cigarettes.

He drove a black or possibly dark green SUV similar to a Chevy Tahoe with a dolphin on the face of the stereo and seats that may have been leather. The front seat may have been a bench seat, the Sheriff's Office said.

Investigators asked anyone with information to call the King County Sheriff's Office at 206-296-3311 or 911.

The Sheriff's Office put together this web page with the information about the case.
