Coast Guard Rescues Man From Mountaintop

PORT ANGELES, Wash. —

Coast Guard crews hoisted a 64-year-old man off of a 7,000-foot mountain near Port Angeles on Sunday night in the highest-altitude rescue on record in the region, officials said.

The man was injured and not able to move when a Coast Guard HH-65C Dolphin helicopter from Port Angeles was sent to the scene at 7:45 p.m.

The helicopter crew hoisted the man from Brother Mountain at altitude of just over 7,000 feet and transferred him to Guard Air Station Port Angeles. He was then taken to Olympic Medical Center.

There was no immediate word on how he came injured or what his condition is.
