SEATTLE —
A large crowd gathered at a vigil to remember the man who was killed Thursday during a shooting in Seattle’s Central District.
Justin Ferrari, 42, was fatally shot in a minivan during another person’s dispute. A man was shooting at another group across the street on Martin Luther King, Jr. Way and East Cherry Street when Ferrari’s minivan was struck, police said. Ferrari was driving the vehicle with his parents and his two children, ages 4 and 7, inside. According to police, the bullet went through the window and killed him instantly.
Residents in the Central District came out to show their support for Ferrari at the location where he was killed.
“We need your help, we need your guidance, we need your strength,” said a man who gave a prayer.
KIRO 7 Eyewitness News spoke with Harriet Walden, a community activist, and she shared her thoughts about the gunman who is still at large.
“I have one word for the shooters, and anyone that knows them, is that it’s time to turn them in,” said Walden. “We want to create a culture of peace.”
Seattle police assistant chief Nicholas Metz told KIRO 7 that the shooting could lead to more violence.
“If they were in a position to do this, they’re in a position to do it again,” Metz said.
Officers on patrol were also out talking with neighbors and getting more information to find the gunman.
Lorrie Reynolds knows Ferrari’s family and she was his children’s preschool teacher.
“They’re just little tykes, and they’ve lost their daddy,” Reynolds said. “I’m going to do what I can to keep it from happening to anybody else.”
Another vigil will be held at the same location on Saturday at 12:30 p.m.
Anyone with information or who may know the identity or whereabouts of the shooter is asked to call 911 or the Seattle Police Homicide Tip Line at 206-233-5000. They said anonymous tips are welcome.
