Couple Dead In Apparent Murder-Suicide

GIG HARBOR, Wash. —

The deaths of a man and woman at a home in Gig Harbor appear to be a murder-suicide, the Pierce County Sheriff's Office said.

A man who was found wounded outside the house on Thursday morning said he was trying to break up an altercation when he was shot. When a SWAT team responded, it found the bodies inside.

Sheriff's spokesman Ed Troyer said a neighbor heard calls for help about 7:30 a.m. and found the wounded man outside. The neighbor said the man had been shot in the eye.

He was conscious when he was taken to a hospital and told police he had been shot in the home.

"I heard someone call, 'Help me. Help me,' and there was, I would guess, a Hispanic person wrapped in a sleeping bag, and he was covered with blood," said Ted Sanford, a witness.

The incident prompted a large response from law enforcement agencies. Video from Chopper 7 showed numerous police cars parked in the neighborhood of homes and duplexes near Kimball and Erickson.

Chopper 7 video showed SWAT officers entering the home after 10 a.m. and then leaving the home a few minutes later.

Troyer said a Pierce County SWAT team found the bodies. Investigators then got a search warrant to go back inside to look for evidence.

Troyer said it was not clear who the man in the street was or why he was wrapped in a sleeping bag.
