REDMOND, Wash. —
A car swerved off the road and crashed into a Redmond house, hit a gas line and ignited a fire on Saturday evening, according to the Redmond Police Department.
Police said the incident happened at about 8:15 p.m. when a 62-year-old Redmond woman in a 1997 Lexus sedan was traveling northbound on 148th Avenue Northeast and hit a house on the corner of Northeast 61st Way.
When the Redmond Fire Department arrived at the scene, the home was engulfed, but firefighters extinguished the fire quickly.
According to police, the home was vacant, but nobody was inside.
The Redmond woman was taken to Evergreen Hospital for precautionary purposes.
Police said alcohol does not appear to be a factor but the driver told officers she had a mechanical malfunction.
The collision is still being investigated by the Redmond Police Department’s traffic unit.
