Crews Contain Fire In Lincoln County

HARRINGTON, Wash. —

A fire that burned about 5,400 acres in Lincoln County in eastern Washington was declared contained Saturday.

The Wall Lake blaze destroyed three hunting cabins and several outbuildings, but no injuries were reported.

The fire burned over sagebrush and rangeland and was fanned yesterday by wind gusts and hot temperatures.

More than 160 firefighters were on the scene, and took advantage of lighter winds and slightly cooler temperatures to contain the blaze.

The Lincoln County Sheriff's Office says the cause of the fire was under investigation, but a preliminary report indicated that it may have started as a flareup of a fire at a mobile home.

The fire was near the Swanson Lakes Wildlife Refuge in an area of scattered farms.
