Crews Fix Power Lines By Air, Water

EVERETT, Wash. —

Utility crews used both a helicopter and a boat to fix leaning power poles carrying high-voltage transmission lines Thursday, reported KIRO 7 Eyewitness News.

The power poles near Everett were discovered to be leaning into another high tension line Wednesday afternoon by a power company survey crew.

Due to the swampy area the poles are located in and the delicate balance of the lines, crews said the only way to make repairs was by using a helicopter and boat.

Crews said if the power lines were to snap and fall into the Snohomish River, huge blackouts could occur in the area.

Video from Chopper 7 showed utility crews in a boat struggling in high winds near the base of the leaning power poles while a helicopter dropped supplies in to repair the lines.

Crews planned to hook a new guy wire on the power poles then have the ground crew pull them upright again.
