EVERETT Wash. —

Everett police said an anti-police remark and a racial slur were included in graffiti found on an Everett auto dealer’s building that was set on fire and burglarized.

At about 7:47 a.m. on Friday, firefighters were called to Broadway Auto Sales at 1630 Broadway Ave. for a report of smoke coming from the building.

Once the fire was put out, police arson investigators were called to the scene.

Everett police said it appeared that one of the doors to the building had been kicked in, and evidence was found inside that indicated that someone had tried to remove the safe, but was unsuccessful.

Police said it is possible that the culprits in the case started the fire in an attempt to cover up the burglary.

Investigators said there was some graffiti on the outside of the building that the owner said was not there Thursday.

The graffiti included a disparaging remark about the police department and a racial slur but it has not been determined whether the graffiti is associated with the arson and burglary.

Anyone with information about the crimes is asked to call the Everett Police Department tip line at 425-257-8450
