SEATTLE —
Seattle police have arrested a 20-year-old man in connection with the shooting death of Justin Ferrari in the Central District in May.
Family has confirmed with KIRO 7 Eyewitness News the name of the suspect is Andrew Patterson, and he was arrested in an area in south King County.
Neighbors told KIRO 7 that U.S. Marshals, Seattle police and a SWAT team were at the home of Patterson’s parents on Thursday morning, but he was not there.
On May 24, Ferrari was driving on Martin Luther King Jr. Way and East Cherry Street with his family when he was struck by a bullet that was intended for someone else, the Seattle Police Department said. The man police said fired the shot had been arguing with a group of people across the street. Police said Ferrari died instantly.
Seattle police detective Jeff Kappel said they reviewed surveillance footage and worked with gang unit detectives to chase down leads in the case, which eventually led to the arrest at a Federal Way home Thursday.
“This is the suspect we believe is responsible for the killing of Justin Ferrrari,” Kappel said. “Both surveillance footage, following up on leads, tips, every morsel and bit of information they had, chasing all that information down, they were able to identify and arrest the suspect today."
Detectives were still interviewing Patterson Thursday afternoon, police said. He's expected to be booked into the King County Jail on investigation of homicide.
"Detectives worked hard. Real hard," Sgt. Bob Vallor said.
Central District News reported on a raid that took place in the Central District prior to the arrest, though it isn't entirely clear how the two incidents might be connected.
