EVERETT —

Everett police said Wednesday they believe they prevented a shooting spree with multiple intended targets when they arrested a 23-year-old man Tuesday.

The Everett Police Department said David Moore told friends at a party last Saturday he was going to kill some people and that he wouldn’t be going to jail. He even talked about plans for his funeral.

“What I can tell you about motivation is just what witnesses had indicated to us and that was that the suspect is just mad at the world, and that’s just who he is,” Everett police Sgt. Robert Goetz said.

Snohomish County prosecutors said Moore had planned to start shooting at the AFK Tavern in Everett, a bar that caters to those who play computer and card games.

The alleged plot was a complete surprise to the manager, who declined to be interviewed.

The general manager, Tristan Erickson, sent a written statement later in the day that read, “we were absolutely shocked by the days revelations. This isolated incident is virtually unheard of in the gamer community. Geeks and Gamers are a very supportive, inclusive community. We want to thank the Everett police department for their swift and efficient response to these threats."

KIRO 7’s Chris Legeros learned the first victim was supposed to be a member of Moore’s family.

“He told them where it was going to start and the person he was going to begin with – his mother,” a prosecutor said.

Police said Moore paid to buy four .40 caliber handguns at Pawn Fathers, a shop located next door to his apartment.

The shop said those weapons were never actually ordered or delivered to the store.

Moore was arrested as he was coming out of a class Tuesday at Everett Community College. Police said he resisted arrest.

“Unfortunately for him, he had to be tased three times in order for us to get him into custody,” Goetz said.

Friends or relatives of Moore were in court Wednesday when he made an appearance, but declined to speak with KIRO 7.

Moore said he was just talking when he made the threats to shoot other people and wasn’t serious. But police took the threats seriously.

“We needed to get him into custody before he harmed somebody,” Goetz said.
