BREMERTON, Washington —
New information in a suspected murder-suicide in Bremerton spilled out Tuesday, as a friend of the suspect expressed doubts that the man could have been involved and police revealed the identity of the victim in an effort to locate any family members.
Jason Allpress, 33, was last seen Saturday night. Friends said he was upbeat after a night out.
On Sunday, he was found dead along with a woman he may have just met hours before.
Police on Tuesday identified that woman as Patti Ann McMullen, 43, of Bremerton.
Detectives said they believe Allpress killed McMullen, shot and wounded his beloved pet mastiff, Brutus, and then took his own life.
One of Allpress' friends, however, told KIRO 7 he found that narrative hard to believe.
“As far as him shooting her, the dog and then himself, that just doesn’t seem right to me,” Waylyn Hague said.
It isn’t exactly clear what happened that led to Allpress’ and McMullen's deaths.
Allpress was last seen with a friend when they stopped at a gas station in Gorst to use an ATM on Saturday. Allpress was approached by an intoxicated woman who asked for a ride.
“Jason said that he would give her a ride,” Hague said. “Our buddy who was with him said he didn’t feel comfortable with it. He hopped into the cab and got a ride on himself.”
Investigators said that woman could be McMullen, but that hasn't yet been made clear.
Detectives McMullen, who had no known relationship with Allpress, has no family or friends they can find to notify of her death. The cause and manner of her death is being withheld pending the notification of next of kin.
“We believe that she was adopted at some point in time in her childhood and that her adoptive parents are deceased,” Kitsap County Sheriff’s Deputy Scott Wilson said. “We’re told that she has a child, but that child also is deceased.”
