SEATTLE —

Three victims of a weekend shooting near Lake Union -- who are being treated in the critical care unit at Harborview Medical Center -- may owe their lives to the efforts of good Samaritans, says KIRO 7 Eyewitness News Graham Johnson.

Before aid crews could arrive, friends and bystanders fought to keep a gunshot victim from passing out, amateur video from the scene showed. As one man begged the victim to hang on, another called 911.

One of those helping out was Richard Abdullah, a security guard at Citrus, the restaurant and club near the scene of the shooting early Saturday morning.

Abdullah said a group had been kicked out of the club, and then got into a gun battle with another group waiting across the street.

"The other gentlemen were firing shots, too," he said. "Both parties were shooting at each other."

Police said 30 shots were fired, but Abdullah said there might have been hundreds. Three men fell, all with multiple gunshot wounds.

"I noticed one of the gentlemen laying on the ground, writhing in pain. So it's like, 'got to do something,' so I took off running and went to help him out," he said.

The shooters got away before police came, and detectives are hoping witnesses can help identify them.

Abdullah said he knew he was risking his life helping the victims, but that "it was the right thing to do."

All of the victims are listed in serious condition at Harborview Medical Center.
