FEDERAL WAY, Wash. —

Federal Way police are trying to piece together what they say are suspicious details of a shooting that put a man in the hospital.

The 27-year-old victim was in surgery at Harborview Medical Center Friday morning after he was shot several times in the stomach during a party.

Police said  a dispatcher received a 911 call about  shots heard in the 29600 block of 24th Avenue South, well before anyone called to report there was a victim, around 3 a.m.

When officers arrived, they found a man with multiple gunshot wounds to his abdomen.

Police said neighbors told officers there was a gathering of about six to eight people at the home sometime overnight, but when officers arrived, no one was at the home except the victim and his girlfriend.

Investigators said the people who live at and rent the home were not there, either.

Officers said during the investigation, it was clear that the details didn't add up.

"We're saying there was at least a 20 minute delay between the time the shooting actually happened and the time we were called to respond to the victim," said Federal Way police spokeswoman Cathy Schrock.

Police said it appeared the girlfriend witnessed the shooting but was reluctant to give investigators information.

"She's not being considered a suspect.  At this point, we think the shooter was probably inside of the residence at the time of the shooting," said Schrock.

Police were at the scene collecting evidence, canvasing the neighborhood and interviewing the man's girlfriend.  Hours later, they obtained a search warrant for the home and officers were seen carrying bags of evidence away from the home.

Anyone with information is asked to call Federal Way police.
