The children wanted in connection with an Amber Alert have been found safe at the home of their paternal grandmother but police are still looking for their mother.

The two young girls were taken by their mother after she allegedly stabbed her husband at a home in Shoreline.

Police are searching for Doreen Starrish, who they say took her 3-year-old and 7-year-old daughters after the stabbing that left Starrish's husband critically injured.

Police tell KIRO 7 that the girls were dropped off at their paternal grandmother's house by Starrish's brother.

Police want to talk to her brother, but he has not been located as of Thursday night.

Starrish is Native American with brown hair and eyes, weighs 170 pounds and is 5 feet 8 inches tall.

The Sheriff's Office said the incident began when Starrish came to the house, in the 1500 block of Northeast 190^th Street,  at 8:30 a.m. Thursday to pick up the two children from their father, Aaron Charles Smith.

At some point, Smith and Starrish got into an argument and Starrish stabbed Smith in the chest, deputies said.

Police said Smith was conscious long enough for deputies to ask him who stabbed him. He replied, “I’d rather not say,” investigators said.

Starrish left the scene in a 2000 silver Lincoln Navigator with license number ABK0976.  The car was found near Northeast 140th Street and Lake City Way in north Seattle, and a man in the car was taken into custody.  

Police said the man had driven Starrish from the stabbing scene and dropped her and the two children at a McDonald's restaurant on Ballinger Way in Shoreline.  Starrish and the children then got into the black Cadillac STS with another man. There's no more information about the Cadillac.

Video from Chopper 7 showed the Navigator being towed to an impound lot near where it was found.

According to the King County Sheriff’s Office, police said they are familiar with the Shoreline home and know the tenants.

Starrish has a list of criminal convictions, which include assault, drug possession, reckless driving and felony malicious mischief. Smith, the father of the children, also has a rap sheet that includes assault, drug possession, criminal trespassing and theft.

KIRO 7 was unable to uncover any recent legal actions between the parents that may have trigged Thursday morning's altercation.

Neighbor Mike Read said he doesn’t know if there was anything illegal going on at the home, but described when he has seen.

“Sure, there are suspicions, but no direct evidence that we ever saw, just a lot of arguments and violence between themselves. The sad thing is that depending on the day, there are two or three kids in there,” said Read.

As Smith was put into the ambulance, his condition deteriorated and medics performed CPR on him on the way to Harborview Medical Center.

He was in critical condition when he went into surgery, officials said.

The King County Sheriff’s Office Major Crimes Unit was at the home investigating.
