BELLEVUE, Wash. —

Police said a man tried to force an 18-year-old girl into his car near the Crossroads Mall in Bellevue Saturday afternoon.

The girl was at the southeast corner of the mall in the 15600 block of Northeast Eighth Street at 2 p.m. when a man drove up and told her to get in his car, investigators said.

When she backed away, he got out of his car and attempted to lift her into the vehicle, police said.

When he noticed onlookers, he jumped into his car and fled the area.

The victim described the attacker as Hispanic, in his late 30s to early 40s, about 5 feet 8 inches tall with a medium build, a short buzz-cut and scruffy facial hair. He was wearing a white T-shirt and blue jeans.

The man drove what was described as a dark green older model Geo 4-door hatchback with a Washington license plate. The car had a large dent on the left side of the rear bumper.

A sketch was created by a Bellevue Police Department sketch artist and police released a picture of a vehicle is similar to the one involved in the incident.

Anyone who recognizes the person in the sketch or was in the area at the time of the attempted kidnapping and witnessed it is asked to call 911.
