SEATTLE —
Police said Thursday new video proves a person of interest in the disappearance of Lindsey Baum was in the city of McCleary, where Baum disappeared, at a time when he said he wasn’t.
Grays Harbor County Sheriff’s detectives released the surveillance video, which was taken at a mini mart the evening Baum, then 10, disappeared while walking home from a friend’s house. The video showed a customer who police said told them wasn’t in McCleary at the time.
Undersheriff Rick Scott said the video clearly contradicts the man’s claim.
“I can say his explanation was not satisfactory,” Scott said.

In October, detectives searched the man’s home and his business, a jewelry store. During that search, and again Thursday, the man told KIRO 7 he had nothing to do with Lindsey’s disappearance.
Baum’s mother, Melissa Baum, told KIRO 7 she met the man during a volunteer search for Lindsey late on the night she disappeared.
“I try not to get my hopes up too much anymore because it’s a big letdown, but I feel like we’re going to find Lindsey,” Melissa Baum said. “I’m very confident we’re going to find Lindsey and I’m hoping it’s very soon.”
Police released the video because they said they wanted to talk with two women seen talking with the man in the mini-mart. After KIRO 7’s Richard Thompson posted the video on Twitter, it took just a couple hours before the women came forward.
In April 2010, the Homeward Bound Program generated new leads by adding billboard-sized posters on trucks. Last November, prisoners cleared a wooded area north of McCleary in search of Baum.
